My Own Rip-Offs... I mean "Re-Creations" Raziel When I first visited Lego-Planet I was in awe and decided I must study the excellent work crafted by Jun Nishizawa. Soon study turned to obsession and I decided I MUST physically recrate one of those Mechs to better understant it's beauty.I chose the Gabriel Mech ( I think the hands and large cockpit hooked me) Which over the next week or so seemed to be not such a good idea. Figuring out how it was built was one thing, figuring how to make one with my own parts was a different matter. While the finished result looks better than any of my own previous efforts, I must have made the ankles wrong... A freind of mine breathed on it wrong & it tipped over. http://www.8823.net/~lego/legoplanet.htm http://www.8823.net/~lego/pazill/gabriel.htm Zadkiel Midstream on construction the Raziel, Jun Nishizawa updated his website with the Red Emporer. Considering I was beating my head in frustration over hip construction, I decided a time-out was in order and that mayeb I should tackle the new litte guy first. So I did. And it was really neat looking. But again, I wonder how bad my interpretation of it is, as it seems quite fragile. Still it poses quite well and strangely enough the "headgear" I used on my Zadkiel showed up on Jun's Black of Condemnation :) So maybe just maybe I'm starting to understand his work.. AS IF!!! http://www.8823.net/~lego/pazill/emperor.htm http://www.8823.net/~lego/pazill/blackofc.htm Fpod Since Pods are all the craze, and I've been duplicating everything else lately, I had to make one too.Patterend after Chris Maddison's Evergreen, I wouldn't say my pod has any really groundbreaking features, tho the two classic air tanks might be it's strongest charachter point. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=23451 AFC (Another Future Car) Patterned after Todd Trotter's "Future Car", this time I actually made some of my own modifications. Partially because I couldn't figure some of the quirks of Todds car out, but mostly because I had to make the cockpit open & close. Aside from looking like a slightly lamer Future Car, as the pictures show, Old Ben can get in and out by raising the aerodynamic faring and popping the back hatch. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=16585 Red Streak Obviously I like Chris Madsison's work :) At least I took the time to make the AFC before Copying his "Frostbite". It is basically the same ship with extra greebling. Maybe a bit racier too. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=18347 Groundpounder MDP (Mobile Defense Platform) Gil Toradoch was my next "victim" or rather his "Lynx - All Terrain Defense Vehicle" was :) I tried experimenting with a rotating and or sprung rear axel, but eventually gave up on that idea. The controll pod and the increased length would be the two greatest departures from the ATDV. I figure this baby is built by one of Toadoch Systems rivals but that's all the backstory I have :) http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=21694 Troubador The next thing that I sumbled across that made me drool was GlaGla's "original Mech" http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=17114 How did it get so frigging poseable?!?!?! So I studied the pictures and began reverse engineering. I figured out ways to mimic almost everything, but decided I had to have a person inside it so I gave up on part of the shoulder joints. I began showing my freinds how cool it was, but without the head and legs not fully detailed they pointed at the Raziel and said "it isn't as cool as that one..." Philistines! Anyway, after an aborted night of trying to flesh out the legs, guess what came online? http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=240050 #!@!%@#$!!!!!! If only that had been there earlier - or if only I had taken pictures sooner :) Now anyone can look at those instructions and make thier own version... which is a GREAT thing! Admittedly I finally re-did my ankle design using the last few parts I had been saving for another porject, but now they are along GlaGla's designs. Obviously with my chages (especially the added weight and armor, my version isn't quite as flexible, and the head is.. well odd to say the least (though I find it endearing in a #5 sort of way). Using the Raziel hands was a mistake though, as it leads to weak wrists - which is why the main weapons are shoulder mounted. Still I now better understand how to make interesting Mecha. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=24815 Maybe now I can do something... original! Yeah... right!
