Big... Yellow... MECH My first half decent Mech... Don't really have a story behind it yet or much of a description of it's attributes or role in society. But I do have development pics and some ideas at http://www.osage.net/~trs13/lego/emech/ Things I *do* know: - Now that it's "done" I'll be able to sleep again.... - The BFG is articulated and designed to stow on the mech's back. - The BFG probably uses plasma to hyperaccelerate some form of projectile and the hose to the front of the BFG is for discharging plasma in a flamethrower-like fashion - The back has four technic peg mounts for a variety of loads - here only one is occupied with the BFG - The Fin things on the arms are probably for communications and/or electronic warfare. - The "Variable Mace" takes some imagination. Looks like a toothed mace (good for bashing) until actived Activated, the teeh are connected by a flexible energy conduit (think flexible lightsaber - good for ripping through things) - It has over 20 points of major articulation (arms legs) and at least 7 minor ones (head, loincloth flaps, thrusters ect.) - It has giant pecs & shiny black nipples. The legs were built first then scrapped and the current pair developed The Arms had to be re-designed three times. Most of the hinges use a combination of tape, old technic tubing, and snippets of paperclips to make them sufficiently strong. The ankle & hip articulation fell to click hinges... though I dislike them very much . I've always wanted to build a decent mech and had to do quite a bit of research on how to do so. Much inspiration was gathered from the incredible creations of: Mladen Pejic http://www3.sympatico.ca/mladenpejic/Mecha.htm (feet & hands especially) Christopher Snead http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=10435 (joint stiffening) Stuart Immonen http://www10.ewebcity.com/dadoandrabbit/lego/ (general inspiration & a helpful links page) Also: Dark Gundam http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/Klaupacius/Lego/DarkGundam.html The Mech Hall of Fame http://www.geocities.com/mecha_hall_of_fame/ Eric Sophie http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=Legomaster & Bryce McGlone http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=817 for such great examples - even if they made me feel a bumbling novice at times :) My next lego project is definitly going to be something a bit simpler... I'm thinking that making one of Mark Sandlin's Spiffcraft sounds quite fun http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=2208 TRS trs13@sffn.com http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?lsearch=sammis http://www.osage.net/~trs13/lego/ http://www.sffn.com
