First thing you'll notice, my locomotive is red not green- I do not have a stock Emerald Night handy, but this is just a repaint. The custom rods used in this mod are available at: http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=zephyr It is assumed that you have already done the modifications that are up one level. Walking through the photos of changing the rods on one side (x2 for the other side): 01) you will need these additional parts (x2 for both sides) to add the valve gear. Three custom bars consisting of: 2h7L-3mm, 2h3L-3mm, and 1h1L-2mm; a black 1x2 plate, a black 2x2 plate with pin hole (either 2444 or 10247), a 3 long technic pin without friction, and a technic half pin. 02) pull off the rods 03) pull off the front fender 04) remove the two 1x2 plates with door rails from the fender 05) replace them with the 1x2 plate on top of the 2x2 plate with pin hole 06) gather the parts and start assembling the valve gear bars 07) insert pins as shown 08) here is the backside of the valve gear bars (i.e., will be facing the engine), note that on both bars the cuff for the pin holes are facing toward the engine 09) reattach the rods 10) attach the valve gear assembly 11) place the washer on the top pin, i.e., the one that is attached to the plate with pin hole This design was meant to be simple. Working in an eccentric would be difficult with the existing dimensions of the EN... though Cale has a possible solution here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/steampoweredbricks/12262277183/in/set-72157640399216996/ While you are working on the fenders, you might want to also update them using these parts: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=93273 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=11477
