Remake of 310 Esso Gas Station Uli Meyer, Germany, ulimy@freenet.de I find Otis Redding's Satisfaction much better than Mick Jagger's... The original model was included in the 50-60s town plan. It also came separately as #310. I have included the foto and the sketch from my town plan. A good place to see the town plan and an original gas station is the home page of Roland Ridder: http://home.t-online.de/home/roland.ridder/Lego/autos/autos.htm There was some discussion about whether the edge of the roof needs to be painted red, whether the door must be white or red. There were certain plates with red paint. Check the vintage page of Clark Corner at brickshelf or this japanese link http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Domino/4338/Collection/991128/Esso.html In my eyes it is not important how the big toy-company did it. See the difference between sketch and foto of the townplan! As a matter of fact the doors of early Esso Stations were white and the edge of the roof was red (see 1950b). The red line at the roof is very important to support the nice architecture with those round edges. The 4x8-plate-with-rounded-corner and the Esso Service sign are the only original parts that I used. My red color comes from red-transparent foil, the stickers are color-laser-printed on transparent foil. The large Esso-sign-post is made from lollipop sticks, a brick solution would be awful here. wish I had this toy when I was a boy!
