Texas AFOL Meeting Saturday, September 29, 2001 Austin Jason Spangler's house duration: 6 hours Total in Attendance: 15 Quick Summary: The meeting was a great success! 86% of the people who expressed interest showed up. About half of the people were from Austin, and the rest were from other major metropolitan areas from around the state. Everyone brought something to show, whether it was their own creation or an old Lego set. Many brought stuff to sell and trade, and there were quite a few transactions. Most notabley, Alan brought a *ton* of old MIB and MISB sets for sale and Pat brought a *huge* bin full of excellent parts that he sold or traded. Some notable MOCs: Tom Reed: The 2 pirate ships (Captain Morgan's vessel and "The Black Rose") James Simpson: An awesome little 2-story cottage surrounded by much foliage (including corn plants and an ivy). Sorry, I didn't get digital pics, but I took some on film. Anthony Sava: The big Black Dragon (plus the heads of the other 3, an airship, and more!). Laura Hayden: An unfinished church. TJ Avery: An unfinished articulating tractor. It was functional though and could be operated by remote control. And there were other MOCs, I just can't recall all of them. Scan through the pics and you'll see other non-Lego produced models. There will be more descriptions and write-ups of the event later. This is just a temporary "quick description" until Pat can create a website for it. Pat, please use this file and all the pics as a starting point. Others will post more pics soon, I'm sure. Everyone was very excited and enthusiastic about the gathering and would certainly come to another one in the future. We tentatively planned for another meeting early next spring and discussed the possibility of doing a large train layout. We'll work out more details later. Thanks to everyone for coming and making it a special event. I had a wonderful time and wish we could do it every weekend! (okay, maybe not *that* much, but more often :-) A very special thanks to Jason Spangler for hosting the event and offering his house up to 14 complete strangers. He suffered the loss of one small picture frame, but hopefully that was the extent of the damage. Thanks again, Jason. We all appreciate it! TJ Avery tja@texbrick.com p.s.
