Modifications on 8436: I like the design of the 8436 truck but not its pneumatic moduls. The pneumatic cylinders are too weak: You cannot play with either the crane or the towing car because it is nearly impossible to lift any weight. I started trying to make some modifications on the basic module without changing it much. The first thing I added was a clutch for a trailer (as I did with 8854 and 8868). The drivers cabin now is lifted by a pneumatic spring (from 8446), but not as far as before. I moved the seats one hole backwarts to be able to fit in technic figures. The next thing I built was a compressor driven by the models wheels together with an air tank. They fit quiet nicely in the empty space between the front and the back wheels. I didn't try but I believe, that the 8436 add on modules will still fit on the frame. However, it takes quiet a long distance for the truck to generate a decent pressure in the tank. Therefore, I also added a manual pump. Inspired by the 8455 loader, I integrated the pump in the driver cabin. It is operated from the top by pressing the back side of the windshield. Playing around with my supply of studless technic beams and because I saw some similar pictures here on brickshelf, I decided to convert the 8436 into a dump truck. The whole unit (black & dark gray) is fixed at three position to the chassis. Only the pneumatic cylinders are mounted with two studded axles directly to it. The pneumatic switch is located at the back of the cabin next to the yellow warning light. WR 2005-06 rothw@arcor.de
