Brick replica project: Mumm-ra's Black Pyramid from "Thundercats" Phillip Thorne Sunday, 23 June 2002 In the mid-1980s US animated TV series "Thundercats", the chief villian was a bandages-wrapped wizard-type named "Mumm-ra". (Yes, and the other characters had similarly creative names: Lion-O, Tigra, Monkeyman, etc. Not until 1996's "Beast Wars" would we again witness such heights of what I shall dub, by extension, toyomatopoeia: words that resemble the toys they name.) When not directing incompetent catspaws, or attacking himself, he reposed in a vertical sarcophagus at the center of an obsidian-black Egyptian-style pyramid at the center of a ruined necropolis. This model was created from memory; I recall the pyramid, the four obelisks flanking it (with lightning-emitting tips), and the blasted courtyard of grey ruins surrounding. For the purposes of argument, pretend that the blue elements are red. The only interesting way to extend this notion, is to model the pyramid's interior. It contains the sarcophagus, housed in an alcove shaped like a gaping snake's head; a central magical pool; and four large animal-headed statues, Egyptian-style. At minifig scale, the decor is large enough for a challenging level of detail.
