Info on the images in this folder (hopefully in order!): BarBand.jpg: This is showing off the new color-changing LEDs that I wired up with some assistance and advice from Rob Hendrix. There are six LEDs in the bar, lighting up the band. The band is playing to a crowd of *three*. But as a GATS show guest said, "you have to start somewhere"! Challenger.jpg: This has been my pet project for the last four months or so. The drive wheels are Technic hubs, the brass rods are what is *supposed* to keep them on the tracks. Oh well, I'll keep working at it - I'm too stubborn to quit! I'm using brass guide rods as replacements for the original Technic flex tubing guides. They worked ok, but the soft plastic would wear down in a matter of minutes. If I can get the brass to work, it should last longer! GATSsetup.jpg: This is when we first got to the show. l-r: Steve Demlow, Abner Finley and Conan Collopy. Conan backed the trailer up to within about 20 feet from where we set up. I wish we could do that at *every* show! GMLTCtrailer.jpg: Dan Siskind modelled Conan's truck and trailer. Notice the way the front end of the truck sits higher than the back - we run a bit more tongue weight than we probably should! HighAngleOverview.jpg: Taken from the second floor, this is the view people would see before they even entered the show. You can see how we are almost up to half a rectangle, the two newest modules are at the top. They will eventually grow into a mountain, but so far we're only up to track height. If you look closely you can see that the kid standing on the step-stool has broken off the nose of the Challenger! J3andKids.jpg: John Kelly (John 3) demonstrating one of the bascule bridges to some young fans. We just *love* to talk to kids - they are our target audience! LighthouseVisitors.jpg: This couple is up on the deck of the lighthouse, we usually put them looking over the rest of the show. The light is a 3volt white LED, mounted on a battery box that sits on a rotating Technic turntable. So, the light actually goes around. NewCornerModule.jpg: The white trestle bridge has become a GMLTC trademark, each of our 9volt layouts has had one. Of course, they've all been *different*! This module will eventually grow into a mountain, probably about three feet above the tracks. I didn't notice how not flat the track is, we'll have to fix that before we build any higher. PoliceCar.jpg: Another Dan Siskind creation. This one tempts me to add some flashing non-Lego lights. Rob Hendrix, you're having an influence on me!! (Check out Rob's site: http://www.brickmodder.net ) ReadMe.txt -- you're reading it! RedCaboose.jpg: Yet *another* Dan Siskind creation. This poor model has taken a dive onto more floors than I care to count - but we just keep putting it back together and running it some more. Dan has also made yellow (Union Pacific) and green (Burlington Northern) caboose models in the same style. There is a 9volt battery box that powers the flashing light on the roof. ShowingOff.jpg: We had a few tables with nothing on them, so we set up some extra track to show off some more Ross & John Neal and GMTLC models. We also had a few Lego sets for sale. Speeder.jpg: Bill Toenjes (TooMuchDew) built this one, based on a small vehicle at the Minnesota Transportation Museum's Jackson Street Roundhouse. It occasionally makes high-speed trips around the layout. *grin* TheaterBlock.jpg: I built this one, because I thought we needed more 'color' in the town. I think I used over 20 (25?) different colors of elements in the three buildings. The 'bar band' is in the first floor of the left-hand red building. The old-fashioned police car was built by Bill Toenjes. We need to make our boulevard trees taller so they don't block the vehicles so much. TheaterMarquee.jpg: A closer view of the marquee. There are three Lego fiber-optic elements in the marquee, all somewhat synced together. The 'now showing' is www.brickfilms.com (I asked permission from them before putting it there, too!) TheHomer.jpg: From the wonderful "Simpsons" episode when Homer designs a car for his brother Herb. Each show, only a couple of people notice it! Town1.jpg and Town2.jpg: Just a couple of shots showing the various buildings in the town. I took these mostly for my own benefit, so the next time we set up the layout I'll be able to remember where things are supposed to go. Yes, we're *that* disorganized... TrainPoster.jpg: This was not intentional, but I like the way it looks. It reminds me of the Lego train poster that we were giving away during the show. Of course, this isn't the #10020, it's my 8-wide version. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= I've resized these pictures to somewhere in the 640x480 range, the original images are 2048x1536. If you'd like some of the full-size images to see some better detail, let me know and I can email them to you. Also, if you would like closer detail pictures of any area on the layout, let me know. We'll be setting it up again the first weekend in December, if I get a 'wish list' by then I can take a bunch more pictures. I usually get too wrapped up in talking to people to take time to take pictures. And believe it or not, since we've been working on this layout for around three years most of the parts of it seem "routine" to me! JohnG, GMLTC gmltc_j1 at yahoo.com
