An indispensable part of any medieval town is : the pillory.
Its purpose was to punish criminals by putting them to shame
in front of the entire community.  For this particular model
i was inspired by a real life example still standing today
in the Flemish city of Lokeren, to be seen on this url :

The design is simple, yet effective.  The fires serve both
to make the prisoner well visible to the public and to keep
the guards warm.  And from a plastic point of view, the chain
happens to be just the right length to stay up without being
stressed too much.
